April 10, 1934— March 13, 2026
Berwyn, IL
John Piwowar passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2026, at the age of 91. Born in Poland in 1934, he came to the United States with his wife Katherine and their four daughters in search of a better life. With only an eighth-grade education, John built a successful life through perseverance, a strong work ethic, and quiet determination. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Katherine Piwowar; his children, Christine (Joe) Alagna, Elizabeth (Rick) Nieman, Barb (David) Cambalik, and Grace Crane; seven grandchildren, Johnny (Cassie) Alagna, Anthony (Stephanie) Alagna, Nicole (Nick) Conteduca, Elizabeth (Marc) Besteman, Matthew (Jenna) Nieman, Amanda (Quinn) Myers, and Bobby (Katie) Cambalik; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved sister-in-law Mary (Joe) Dygdon, with whom he shared a special bond, and her children, George, Mark, and Angie.
After arriving in America, John found his first job with the help of family member Joe Korbecki and quickly learned enough English to manage daily life. Under Joe’s guidance, he mastered many trades and became remarkably handy, able to repair nearly anything. His resourcefulness and willingness to work hard allowed him to provide a stable and loving home for his growing family.
In retirement, John found joy in simple things, especially gardening. He planted a large garden at his daughter Grace’s house each year and generously shared its harvest with family and friends. He and Katherine proudly hosted traditional Polish holiday celebrations for many years, preserving their heritage and creating lasting memories. A longtime member of the Zwiazek Club Polski, he formed many lifelong friendships there. Above all, John cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, speaking of them often and with immense pride.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of hard work, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
