May 16, 1944— March 13, 2026
Carnegie, PA
After an 11 year struggle with Parkinson's disease, John Owen Godshall, age 81, passed away on Friday, March 13th, 2026, at St. Clair hospital. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents.
George and Grace (Moyer) Godshall. John's father was a troubleshooter for the Pennsylvania railroad and that necessitated the family moving periodically. John attended elementary school in Pittsburgh, Collinwood High School in Cleveland and the University of Toledo where he earned his bachelor's degree. After completing his master's degree at the University of Pittsburgh, John began his career at CCAC (Boyce Campus) as a teacher of media services and eventually became the director of the Audio-Visual department. In that capacity John was responsible for producing the informational and marketing materials for Community College.
A resident of both Carnegie, Pennsylvania and Edgewater Florida, John enjoyed both his homes and the many friends who knew and loved him in both locations.
John's leisure time was spent on photography, travel, clocks and tinkering with electronics. He is survived by his husband Charles Ayers and his cousins Anne Michael and Paul Moyer.
A celebration of John's life will be held at WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 412-563-2800, on May 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM., followed by a luncheon.
If desired, contributions in John's memory can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (https://give.michaeljfox.org-donate) or to the The Parkinson's Foundation of Western Pennsylvania (https://pfwpa.org).
