John Mooney

1947 — 2026

Plattsburgh, NY

John Mooney, 78, of Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10th at CVPH Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 23-year battle with Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Born in Plattsburgh on September 12, 1947, he graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy and later earned a degree in accounting from Saint John Fisher College.

John worked as a pharmacy technician alongside his brother Dale at Condos Pharmacy before spending much of his career as a bread salesman for Bouyea-Fassett’s Bakery. His warm and friendly manner made him a familiar and welcome face throughout the community. Despite living with ALS for more than two decades, he remained remarkably positive, hardworking, kind, and easy-going. In his younger years he enjoyed playing softball and had a lifelong passion for collecting sports memorabilia. A devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants, he also took great pleasure in watching Hallmark Christmas movies.

He is survived by his loving wife Pamela, to whom he was married for just shy of 50 years; his daughter Kristina Coryea and granddaughter Emma of Plattsburgh; his daughter Stephanie Akin and her husband Aaron, along with grandsons Desmond and Dexter; his sisters Nora McNeil of Peru and Julie Wells and her husband Dennis of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Dale and Conan Mooney, and his son-in-law John Coryea.
