John Michael Burke

John Michael Burke, 73, of Iona, Idaho, passed away on March 8, 2026, at his home under the care of Eden Hospice.

Born on April 10, 1952, in Berea, Ohio, to William Burke Sr. and Lois Hadlow Rand, John grew up in Fort Bragg, California, where he graduated from Fort Bragg High School. He attended Idaho State University before serving in the United States Army. On April 29, 1978, he married Cheryl Sumner in Fort Bragg, and the couple made their home in Iona, Idaho.

John was a longtime member of The Fraternal Order of the Eagles and found quiet pleasure in reading. He is remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who built a life rooted in family and service.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Burke of Iona; sons Clint (Jennifer) Barry of Rigby, Idaho, and Nathan (Shandel) Burke of Iona; brother William (Pam) Burke Jr. of Branson, Missouri; brother Pat Burke of California; sisters Marianne Reynolds and Naomi Sallinen, both of California; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Burke Sr. and Lois Rand.
