Preserve forever →John McCormick
Newark, DE
John McCormick passed away on March 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in 1947 and raised in upstate New York, he graduated from Maine-Endwell High School, where he played football and participated in student government and many other activities. He went on to attend Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he met the love of his life, Connie. They married in 1967 and built a life together, welcoming their daughter Colleen in 1969.
In the early 1970s, John began working with accounting machines, a first step that led to a long and successful career as a computer programmer. He honed his skills throughout the decade and in 1976 founded his own business—the same year he and Connie celebrated the birth of their son, Jay. In the late 1970s, his daughter Colleen discovered her lifelong passion for horses, which quickly became a shared family interest. For the next four decades, John devoted countless hours to attending horse shows and enjoying trail rides with his family.
He developed a deep love for Phillies baseball in the 1990s, attending dozens of games and watching nearly every night he could not be there in person. In 1998 he became a grandfather and cherished his grandsons Joshua and Zackery, faithfully attending their games and cheering them on from the stands. After retiring in the 2010s, John remained committed to giving back to the community. He volunteered with the New Castle County Police Senior Roll Call program to support elderly residents living alone and worked with AARP to prepare taxes for senior citizens who could not otherwise afford professional assistance.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Connie; his daughter Colleen Daniels and her husband Tad of Bear; his son Jay and his fiancé Lauren Reffay of Newark; and his grandsons Joshua Daniels of Bear, and Zackery Daniels and his wife Emilee of Duff, Tennessee.
