June 8, 1953— March 8, 2026
Longview, TX
John McCall, of Longview, Texas, was born in Dunedin, Florida, on June 8, 1953, and passed away on March 8, 2026.
John carried a stubborn independence through life that those who knew him would recognize instantly. In high school, he played drums in the band, where he met his future wife, Kathy. Their shared love of music grew into a marriage that lasted over 50 years. He served 20 years in the United States Army, a chapter of his life he spoke of with quiet pride. After his military career, he worked as a medical laboratory scientist, bringing the same discipline and meticulous attention to detail to his civilian work. In his free time, John enjoyed playing Dungeons & Dragons, role-playing video games, and cooking, pursuits that allowed him to tinker, strategize, and delight others with his culinary skills. Known as a curmudgeon—and proud of it—those closest to him understood the humor and deep loyalty that lay beneath his gruff exterior.
He leaves behind his loving family, a closet full of unpainted miniatures, and a few discussions he was just about to win. John is survived by his wife Kathy, his brother Rob, his sister Marie, his daughter Jennifer Bartlett and her husband Eddie, and his grandson Jon. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Sara McCall. In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated and no service was held.
