Passed March 11, 2026
Attleboro, MA
John M. Pereira, a devoted family man and longtime resident of Attleboro, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, at the Ellis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Norwood, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years old.
Born in São Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late John L. and Maria A. Pereira. John served in the Portuguese Military before immigrating to the United States in 1970. He settled in Attleboro that same year, where he built a life rooted in hard work and community. He dedicated thirty years to Engelhard Industries, working in their Plainville and Warwick, Rhode Island locations.
John’s greatest legacy was his lifelong love story with his wife of 55 years, Maria Fatima Pereira. The pair met and began dating at the age of 13, remaining inseparable through every chapter of life. An avid reader with a passion for gardening, he was rarely seen without a book or a tool in his hand. He took great pride in his extensive tool collection and was always ready for a project. A proud member of the Portuguese American Club and the Holy Ghost Society at the former Holy Ghost Church on Linden Street, he cherished his yearly summer trips to Sicily, Italy, to visit his daughter and granddaughter.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Fatima; his devoted daughter, Alice Pereira, and her husband, Mimo; and his cherished granddaughter, Maria Pilar, all of Sicily. He also leaves behind his brothers, Tiago Pereira and his wife Madalena, and Peter Pereira, all of Attleboro, as well as his nephew Richard and niece Karen.
