March 31, 1944— February 23, 2026
Yonkers, NY
John Marshall Waverly Lipscomb, Sr., affectionately known as “Popcorn,” was born on March 31, 1944, in Eckman, West Virginia, to the late Joseph Irving Lipscomb, Sr., and Annie Lee Lipscomb. He passed away unexpectedly on February 23, 2026, at the age of 81.
For 41 years, John shared a loving marriage with Milagros D. Lipscomb, known as Mimi. They wed on March 22, 1984, and built a life filled with companionship, shared milestones, and everyday joys that became treasured memories. His warm personality and natural sense of humor earned him the nickname “Mr. Personality.” He had a gift for making others laugh and was always ready to lend support when needed. John faced life’s challenges with quiet resilience and remained deeply devoted to his family, especially cherishing his weekly calls with his brother from another mother, Fred Williams.
He retired as a supervisor with Emerson Middle School and other locations throughout the Yonkers, New York area. John took genuine pride in his work and enjoyed connecting with the people around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Keith X. Lipscomb, and his brothers James B. Lipscomb and Charlie L. Lipscomb. John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Milagros D. Lipscomb (Mimi); his children, John M. W. Lipscomb, Jr. (Stacey) and Deneen Lipscomb; his brothers Joseph I. Lipscomb, Jr. (Loulena) and Frankie L. Lipscomb (Grace); his sisters Alice Vincent, Pauline Williams (Fred), Marlene Green (Curtis), Rose Lipscomb, Shelby Major, Cecelia Lipscomb, and Cynthia Lipscomb; and extended family from Milagros’s side, including Ferdinand, Florizel, Joselito, Ambelle, Ryan, Mennen, and Dante Adela. He also leaves twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
