Although sad at his passing, we are comforted knowing he is no longer suffering the confusion and disorientation of advancing dementia.John is survived by Cynthia Landry D'Aubin, his loving wife of 62 years; his devoted sons, Lewis D'Aubin (Jeannine) and Darren D'Aubin (Shannon); beloved grandchildren, Jon Quinilty "Quinn" D'Aubin and Savannah D'Aubin Tuminaro (Joseph "Joe"); and great-grandchildren, Jay and Landry Tuminaro.He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including several to whom he felt especially close: Pam Ellis Stoewer, Steve D'Aubin, David D'Aubin, Leo D'Aubin, Stanley D'Aubin, David Ellis, Ricky Ellis, and their spouses.John was preceded in death by his parents, Leo D'Aubin and Annetta Layers D'Aubin, and all six of his siblings: Vivian Ullrich, Jean Champeau, Leo "Jack" D'Aubin, William "Bill" D'Aubin, Joyce Ellis, and Richard "Dick" D'Aubin.John served in the U.S. Air Force, 1950 - 1954, as an aircraft mechanic, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, before being honorably discharged. From 1954 - 1958, he studied at LSU, earning his degree in Industrial Arts Education, and later received his Master's degree from USM in 1972.He taught in Orleans Parish schools, then at Delgado Community College from 1963 - 1974, where he developed and ran the automotive mechanics program. From 1974 - 1987, he was director of the Jefferson Parish Vocational Technical School on Airline Drive and was also regional director for several years. He then taught educational programs at Avondale Shipyards, retiring in 1994.John was a parishioner at St. Rita Church in Harahan since 1964, and served on the parish council and as a Eucharistic Minister. For many years he enjoyed meeting friends at Elmwood Fitness Center.During the last 5 months of his life, John had many caregivers at Ochsner Emergency Department, Hospital, and Skilled Nursing Facility; Right at Home; St. Joseph Nursing Home in Harahan; and St. Catherine Hospice. The family appreciates the dedication and able care they provided for John and are grateful to all of them.Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm on March 26, 2026 followed by Mass at 2:00 pm with Fr. Steven Bruno officiating at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
