John Kerr

1939 — 2026

Henryetta, OK

John Anderson Kerr was born on November 15, 1939, in Dewar, Oklahoma, to Thomas and Juanita (Crosby) Kerr. He passed away at home on March 17, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son John Chuck Kerr, his sister Elizabeth “Betty” Dodge, and his close friend whom he considered a brother, Carlton Dodge.

John graduated from Dewar High School in 1958, where he excelled as an athlete for the Dragons and received an offer to play college football. He married Margie Mangrum in 1958, and together they had two children, Teresa and Chuck. In 1989, he married Wilma Cantrell Floyd and welcomed her children, Jimmy and Julie, into his family.

From an early age, John spent summers on Beaver Mountain in Haskell County with his beloved grandfather, John Crosby. There, and alongside his Uncle John Henry, he developed a lifelong passion for the outdoors, learning to hunt and training hounds. He cherished time in the woods chasing raccoons with Doyle Burden or running rabbits with Joe Peavler, favoring the deep voice of a bawl-mouthed bluetick. This love of hunting, dogs, and firearms he passed on to his grandsons. He also enjoyed horses and calf roping, spending countless hours at local arenas and watching rodeos on the Cowboy Channel.

A dedicated worker with a strong Scottish work ethic inherited from his paternal grandfather, John held various jobs, including at PPG, as a propane truck driver, and for many years with Colley and Company in Henryetta. One of his most memorable experiences was working on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in 1976, where he often recounted tales of rugged mountains, deep snow, and wildlife. A pivotal moment in his life came on April 1, 2020, when he was baptized.

John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Wilma; his daughter Teresa Lewis (Jerry); his daughter Julie Aldridge (Richard); and his son Jimmy Floyd (Leah Ann). He is also survived by ten grandchildren—Colt Kerr, Ian Lewis, Travis Lewis (Dottie), Kayla Jones (Beau), Reagan Kerr, Savannah Kerr, Brandon Floyd (Shannon), Garrett Floyd (Brylee), Rhett Aldridge (Tempest), and Garret Taylor—and twelve great-grandchildren.
