John Hoover

John Hoover, a lifetime member of the Syracuse community, passed away on March 4, 2026 at Waterford Crossing in Goshen, at the age of 89. He was born on October 5, 1936 to Guy and Pauline (Wogoman) Hoover. John was a proud graduate of Syracuse High School, Class of 1954. After completing his education, he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, where he exemplified dedication and service.
John was a long-time member of the American Legion Post 223. He had a deep love for history, particularly the rich past of Syracuse, which he shared passionately with those around him. Known for his one-of-a-kind personality, John had a simple yet creative approach to life, always accompanying it with a delightful sense of humor that brought smiles to many faces. He enjoyed indulging in sweet treats, particularly ice cream and Zero candy bars.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Curtis (Ken Oswald) of Syracuse; grandson H.B. (Maranda) Adams Jr. of Rochester, Washington; and great-grandchildren, Gracelynn and Liam Adams. John also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy, who passed in 1967, as well as his siblings, Robert and Steve Hoover, and his parents. The legacy he leaves is one of love, community, and a zest for life that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
His Life Celebration Visitation will be held on March 10, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 5:00 PM at Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services at 1001 South Huntington Street, Syracuse, Indiana. Military honors will follow and be provided by the Syracuse American Legion Post 223. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Syracuse Cemetery.
