John’s life began on September 17, 1937, in Ravia, OK. He was the son of Austin T. and Jeffie Jewel (Wilson) Rose. John graduated from Plainview School in1955 and enlisted in the United States Navy shorty after graduation. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 – 1958. During his Navy enlistment, he was united in marriage to Jackie Ford on June 2, 1957, in Wichita. After the service, John went to work on the railroads, first the Rock Island Line, then CB & Q, Southern Pacific, Sante Fe and Union Pacific at retirement. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed coaching baseball. John and Jackie attended First Baptist Church when residing in Herington. John is survived by his wife of 68 years Jackie Rose of Salina; children Debbie (Randy) Wendt of Salina, Robin (Bill) Swendson of Salina, Shelby (Jeff) Bressel of Salina and Michael (Haley) Rose of Tulsa; grandchildren Kelly Carrico, Aaron (Sarah) Wendt, Gunner (Kelli) Swendson, Dr. Dusty (Jessica) Swendson, Jennifer Lamer, Jordan Bressel, Ledger Rose, Schuyler Rose, Jacqueline Estes and Crew Estes; great grandchildren Mya, Cruz, Ivy, Cleveland, Liam, Benjamin, Annabelle, Vlad, David, Hannah, Tabitha, and Abigail; and great great granddaughter Callie. John passed away at his home on Wednesday March 11, 2026, at his home. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Dave, Cleve, Charlotte, Thelma, and Helen. His family will gather with friends on Thursday March 19, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington. John’s funeral service will be held on Friday March 20, 2026, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Herington. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
