John Henry Hatfield, Sr. was born on January 3, 1939, in Cinderella, West Virginia, to Wall Valentine Hatfield and Ora Faye (Stover) Hatfield. He passed away on March 10, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 87.
As one of four children, John’s early life took an adventurous turn when his parents, inspired by a revival preacher, packed up the family and followed him across several states before settling in Oklahoma. He and his first wife, Mary, had a son, John Henry Hatfield, Jr. After that marriage ended, John met the love of his life, Clara. Her daughter, Teresa, joined them to complete their family, and together they shared many happy years until Clara’s passing in November 2022.
John worked as a delivery driver for vending machines, often delighting his family by bringing home treats. In his younger years he enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and raising pigs. He was happiest tinkering in his garage or tending to his yard, which he kept impeccably manicured—much to the friendly envy of his neighbors. Above all, John cherished his family. He took great joy in his children and grandchildren, once turning a mishap while teaching a grandchild to handle a gun into an important lesson on safety and respect for firearms.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Belle Roberson, his brother Gary Hatfield, and his beloved Clara. John is survived by his son, John “J.J.” Henry Hatfield, Jr. and wife Jana; his stepdaughter, Teresa Logan and husband Earl; grandchildren Taylor Hatfield, Samuel Logan and wife Kalee, Jenni Logan and Tristan Threlkeld; three great-grandchildren; his sister Joann Craig; special niece Nyoka Banes; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
