John Henry Brown, age 86, of West Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Atrium Health Wilkes Medical Center.

Born on February 17, 1940, in Iredell County to the late David and Ethel Pauline Lippard Brown, John served his country as a military policeman in the United States Army. He dedicated many years to his community, working for 25 years at Belk Department Store and another 30 years with AFLAC. A devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves and Duke Blue Devils, he rarely missed a game. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and riding his four-wheeler. Above all, John treasured the moments spent with family and friends. Known for his sharp memory and warm personality, he delighted in sharing stories and laughter with everyone around him.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church of West Jefferson, John lived a life centered on faith, family, and friendship. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Scott Brown, and his sister, Mary Francis Brown.

He is survived by his three children, Cindy Brown Price (David) of Warrensville, Jeff Brown (Lori) of Ferguson, and Emily Brown Theodore (Pete) of Mooresville; their mother, Kay Hamilton Brown; his sister, Judy Brown Fortner of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Sam Price (Perry), Nate Price (Sydney), Elly Joyce, Jackson Brown (Kylie), Annabelle Joyce, Aida Joyce, and Gentry Brown; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
