He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Hartogh and Anna Hartogh (Koenigs); his parents-in-law, Edward and Leone Burkhardt; his brother Joseph Hartogh; and his brother-in-law Virgil Zeimetz.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Jo of Peter's Church; his children, Annjean Petersen (Alan), Eileen McGuire (James) and David Hartogh (Mary); his sisters, Margaret Olson (Len) and Mary Zeimetz; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Hartogh. He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren and, soon to be, 17 Great-grandchildren: nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13th 2026 at 4:30 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home (1205 S Main St, Charles City, IA 50616). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 14th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (106 Chapel Ln, Charles City, IA 50616).
