Dayton, OH
John Henry Harvey IV, age 54, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on March 7, 2026.
John attended the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served for seven years as an Operations Specialist and achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (E-5). During his service, he was stationed aboard the USS Antrim, a frigate that sailed throughout the Caribbean, along the East Coast of the United States, and to Scandinavia.
Following his military service, John worked in the computer industry. He worked with companies including IBM, Nationwide, and Honda, where he specialized in computer hardware maintenance and installation.
John was a member of the Mormon Church and was known for his generous spirit and warm personality. He was charismatic, intelligent, and quick with a sense of humor. John had many interests and talents; he enjoyed mountain biking, photography, riding his motorcycle, flying kites, gaming, listening to music—especially trance—and playing guitar. In his younger years he participated in marching band, playing several instruments and sharing his gift as a talented singer. He also had a natural affinity for computers and technology, which remained a lifelong passion.
Above all, John was a compassionate and kindhearted man who often went out of his way to help those in need, frequently offering support and generosity to others even when he faced challenges of his own.
He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Harvey III, and his grandparents. John is survived by his loving mother, Marlene; his two sisters, Jill and Lynn; his niece, Liz; his nephew, Nick; and many cousins.
He will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery.
