Newark, DE
John F. Vernon, Jr., known to all as Jack, passed away on March 6, 2026, at the age of 72 in Newark, Delaware. Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Louise (Catts) Prizer and John F. Vernon, Sr. Jack grew up in Chadds Ford and attended the Chadds Ford-Unionville School District before graduating from Mount Pleasant High School after time at Salesianum School.
He spent his career in jewelry sales, working for respected local establishments including Carl Doubet Jewelers, Bailey Banks and Biddle, and Janvier Jewelers. Most recently, he was employed at Jos. A. Banks, where he took genuine pleasure in selling the clothing he himself loved to wear. An avid sports fan, Jack cheered passionately for all the Philadelphia teams and possessed a remarkable memory that allowed him to recall detailed stats across every sport throughout the season. He also found joy on the golf course, caring for his beloved cats, and losing himself in a good book.
In addition to his parents and stepmother Carlie Vernon, Jack was predeceased by his half-sister Drein Vernon, his brother Thomas Vernon, and step-siblings Faye and Bruce Levy. He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Diane and Ken Love, Linda and John Hicks, and Cheryl Zimmermann; half-siblings Ann Sanford, Lindsay Levy, Maureen Gold, Sean Vernon, and Gillian Vernon; step-sister Nina Locardi; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
