April 10, 1942— March 12, 2026
Pelham, NY
John F. Gassler, 83, a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend, passed peacefully on March 12, 2026.
Born in New York City to Austrian immigrant parents, the late John and Mary Gassler, he grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work, perseverance, and strong family values that guided him throughout his life. He earned his master’s degree from Iona College and built a respected career with several companies in New York City, known for his reliability, professionalism, and strong work ethic. While raising his family, he also proudly served as a reservist in the United States Army.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Wilma; his children, John (Lynn Liu), Steven (Susan), and Melissa (Blake Namba); and his cherished grandchildren, John Michael, Julianna, Jordan, Andrew, Jake, Emma, and Nicholas. John took immense pride in the accomplishments of his children—John, a cardiologist; Steven, a retired police officer; and Melissa, an attorney.
He had a lifelong love of sports, coaching his sons’ Little League baseball teams and instilling in them the values of teamwork and sportsmanship. He later delighted in watching his children and grandchildren compete, while finding personal enjoyment in playing golf and tennis. A devoted fan of the New York Yankees and New York Jets, he also found great joy later in life serving as a crossing guard for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School, where he became a familiar, friendly presence to students and families each day. Above all, John treasured the time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren, cherishing holidays and special moments together. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
