John F. “Sonny” Darwak, 90, of Cohoes, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

Born and raised in Cohoes, Sonny graduated from Cohoes High School in 1953 and began a 38-year career at Barclay Home Products, from which he retired. A lifelong resident of the city he loved, he remained active and athletic throughout his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, dedicated many years to weight lifting and boxing, and played softball in a work league in his younger days. He was a longtime member of the PNA in Cohoes, participated in dart leagues at the PAA on Willow Street and at Joe’s Tavern, and was a faithful communicant of the Church of the Holy Trinity.

Sonny was the son of the late John and Mary Koblensky Darwak and the brother of the late Robert Darwak and Joseph Darwak (late Donna). He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Geraldine Fiset Darwak; his children, Patricia Woods (John) of Collierville, Tennessee, David Darwak (Robin Beach) of Cohoes, Steven Darwak (Tracy) of Cohoes, and John Darwak (Christine) of Simpsonville, South Carolina; his sister, Carol Paskin of Cohoes; and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Darwak. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Sonny will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love of the outdoors, and the deep devotion he showed to his family and lifelong friends.
