John Edward Sims

John Edward Sims, 87, of Evansville, passed away on March 9, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital.

Born on December 8, 1938, in Evansville to the late Lamar F. and Ellen C. (Beavin) Sims, John served in the United States Navy before joining the Evansville Police Department, where he dedicated more than 28 years of service and retired as a lieutenant. For over two decades afterward, he traveled extensively across the United States and the provinces of Canada.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Gosson) Sims; a daughter and son-in-law, DeAnne and Doug Keck; grandchildren Thomas Dennis, Heather Finn, Matthew (Alyssa) Sims, John (Hayley) Sims, and Samantha Sims; and great-grandchildren Franklin Sims and Remington Sims. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three sons, Daniel Paul Sims, David Allen Sims, and Dennis William Sims; sisters Elizabeth Voelker and Nancy Weinzapfel; and brothers Thomas, William, and Raymond Sims.
