October 20, 1960— March 12, 2026
Duncan, OK
John Edward Campbell Jr., known to family and friends as “Jed,” passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on March 12, 2026, in his hometown of Duncan, Oklahoma. He was 65 years old.
Born on October 20, 1960, to John “Buddy” and Virginia Campbell, Jed was raised in Duncan. After graduating from Duncan High School, he attended the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and later earned his law degree from Oklahoma City University College of Law. In 1986, he married Carolyn Bonney. Together they raised two children, Claire Bonney Campbell and John Edward Campbell III, in Duncan.
Jed practiced law in Duncan for more than 35 years. A devoted OU sports fan, he held season tickets to football and basketball games for over 40 years. Yet his greatest joy came from time spent with his family. He and Carolyn cherished annual trips with their children to Palm Springs, California, and Hilton Head, South Carolina. Jed loved playing golf with his son, John, and often recalled special Father-Daughter moments with Claire during her years at OU.
He never missed an important event in his children’s lives. For Claire, he attended every dance recital, show choir performance, school award assembly, OU pom performance, and Dad’s Weekend. He walked her down the aisle and danced with her at her wedding in 2025. For John, he was present at every soccer and basketball game, coached his baseball team for several years, and stood as best man at his wedding. Most treasured of all, Jed was there for the birth of his granddaughter, Hilton Blair Campbell. He is remembered as the most supportive and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Jed is survived by his wife, Carolyn Campbell; daughter Claire Taylor and her husband Russell; son John Campbell and his wife Alexis; granddaughter Hilton; brother Bob Campbell and his wife Nancy; sisters Page Gray and her husband Steve, and Shelley Beall and her husband Robert; sister-in-law Laura Lewis and her husband James; brother-in-law Clifton Bonney and his wife Stacy; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy and Virginia Campbell.
