May 16, 1955— March 9, 2026
Lebanon, NH
John E. Wassmer, 70, passed away on March 9, 2026, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Born on May 16, 1955, in New York City, New York, John was the beloved son of the late Eugene and Arietta (Pfeiffer) Wassmer.
John grew up in the Bronx and attended Sts. Philip & James School before continuing his education at Cardinal Hayes High School. His formative years in New York shaped his character and instilled in him a love for learning and a sharp wit that would remain with him throughout his life.
John was known for his adventurous spirit and diverse interests. He found joy in camping and canoeing, embracing the tranquility of nature and the camaraderie of outdoor adventures. A dedicated martial artist, he practiced Taekwondo with discipline and passion, becoming a black belt and an instructor. John also had a love for debating, relishing the opportunity to engage in thoughtful discussions and share his unique perspective with others.
Those who knew John remember him for his unyielding dedication to his Catholic Faith, which he put first and foremost in his life. His love of the Trinity, of Jesus Christ, of the Virgin Mary, and the saints both impelled him to share that Faith with those he met and gave him an inflexible moral compass.
A generous soul who consistently put the needs of others above his own, his selflessness was matched only by his incredible sense of humor, which brought laughter and light to those around him.
John is survived by his loving sister Janet and brother, James as well as his cherished nieces and nephews: Gene, Lynne Marie, Victor, George, Joseph, Christina, Lisa, Mark, Brian, Kayla, and Emily, and his sister’s in-law, Lourdes and Marta. He was predeceased by his brothers Eugene Wassmer and Joseph Wassmer.
John’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May his legacy of faith, kindness, and laughter continue to inspire all who remember him.
