John Daniel Barringer, age 85, passed away on March 7, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on December 24, 1940, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Hiller Davis Barringer and Callie Winecoff Barringer.
A graduate of A.L. Brown High School, John served in the mechanized U.S. Army before beginning a long career as an industrial and commercial electrical contractor. He co-owned and operated Barnhardt Electric with his brother-in-law, John Barnhardt, and together they wired many of the buildings in downtown Charlotte. An avid aviator, mechanic, and tinkerer, John could build or repair nearly anything. One of his proudest achievements was completely rebuilding and restoring his Piper PA-12 airplane. He remained a lifetime member of EAA Chapter 3.
Above all, John cherished his family and friends. Coming from a large family himself, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who served as the family’s biggest supporter and the steady presence that held them all together. He had a special way of making everyone around him feel genuinely cared for.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Richard, and David Barringer, and four sisters, Betty Rapp, Hilda Barringer, Phyllis Safrit, and Ruby Barringer. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverley Barringer; daughters Lorrie and Meredith; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
