John D. Rutherford

John D. Rutherford of Averill Park passed away peacefully at his home on Glass Lake on March 6, 2026. Born in Troy, New York, he was the son of the late Howard and Theresa Rutherford.

A graduate of the University of Idaho with a degree in business, John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he lived in Spokane, Washington, where he owned and operated a construction company. He held a deep appreciation for the outdoors, finding joy in skiing and spending time on the lake he cherished. John was also a passionate cook, famous among family and friends for his guacamole, which he prepared with pride every Fourth of July. He shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Jeepy, who brought him constant companionship and joy.

John is survived by his brothers, James Rutherford and Jason Rutherford, and his stepmother, Carol. He is also survived by his cousins, Matt, Bill, and Pat, who cared for him with great compassion and dedication in his final days. Their devotion to him will always be remembered.
