We are honored to say John accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and is watching over his family in heaven.Born in Omaha, Nebraska, on July 22, 1938, John received a High School Diploma in 1957, attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha in 1964, and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and United States Marines, receiving an Honorable Discharge. John was a Vietnam Wartime Veteran during his Air Force service, stationed at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base (RTAFB), Takhli District, Thailand, crew chief maintaining the F-105 Thunderchiefs, aka "Thuds", a critical fighter-bomber Vietnam aircraft. John C. Ulrich was a Peacetime and Vietnam Era Veteran with 27 total years of military service, achieving the highest rank of Master Sergeant (MSgt). MSgt John C. Ulrich's service in the Air Force was from October 16, 1964, to December 31, 1984, and in the Marine Corps from May 1957 to October 1964.MSgt John C. Ulrich's last military duty assignment and major command was the 55th Wing - Offutt Air Force Base, NE - 55th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, holding an AFSC 32874, Technical Training Instructor, Avionic Inertial and Radar Navigational System Technician. The 55th Maintenance Squadron is a professional team maintaining combat-ready aircraft, equipment and munitions for the 55th Wing's mission. MSgt John Ulrich's military career awards and decorations include the following:Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Award, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.After his military service, he continued his career with Anacomp, where he worked for many years until his retirement in Cordova, Tennessee. John was known by all for his charisma, wittiness, big laugh, and loving character. John loved Nebraska athletics, especially Nebraska football, fishing, reading, playing chess & poker, investing, firearm sporting, hot tea with honey, was mechanically skilled in multiple electronic trades, a registered Republican voter, but most importantly, enjoyed cherishing his time with family and friends through a multitude of family activities.Throughout his life, John lived in multiple states, such as Nebraska, Mississippi, Tennessee, and many other states, where he later made his final home in Huntsville, Alabama.John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who valued family above all else. He will be remembered for his dedication to those he loved and for the steady presence he brought to the lives of his family and friends.He is survived by his wife, Linda Crews Ulrich; his lovely children, Carson (Kim) Ulrich, Brett (Bonnie) Ulrich, Christine Ulrich (Kurt) Bowman, Paul (Jayme) Ulrich, and Joshua (Stephanie) Ulrich; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan Ulrich, Dane Ulrich, Clay Ulrich, Adam Ulrich, Easton Ulrich, Krystal Wilwerding, Justine O'Connell, Shayne O'Connell, Matthew Ulrich, Macey Ulrich, Ella Ulrich, Taylor Ulrich, Shelby Ulrich, Carson Ulrich, and Levi Ulrich.He was preceded in death by his father W. Howard Ulrich, mother Ann Poe Johnston, and his daughter Cindy Wilwerding Anderson.John's life was defined by his love for his family, his service to his country, and the lasting memories he leaves behind with those who knew him.
