John C. Sprowl Jr.

John C. Sprowl Jr.

January 13, 1942 March 12, 2026

Croswell, MI

John Clarke Sprowl, 84, of Croswell, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy Ann Sprowl, his sister Delia “Nadine” Sprowl, his son John Sprowl, and daughter Jodi (Jeff) Shinn. He leaves behind grandchildren Jeremy Shinn, Jarred (Kylee) Shinn and their son Jensen, Jenna (Isaiah) Saenz, and Joseph Sprowl. John often spoke with deep pride of his love and appreciation for his family.

A graduate of Michigan State University, John earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. He remained a devoted Spartan throughout his life and passed that passion on to his children and grandchildren. While at MSU, he performed with the Prominators dance group and the MSU Singers, traveling across the country for competitions.

John spent most of his career teaching history and psychology at Croswell-Lexington High School. He served on the school board, helped negotiate teacher contracts, and represented educators through the Michigan and National Education Associations. He often said teaching the children of Sanilac County was both a privilege and a joy. A man of strong Christian faith, he was an active member of the Methodist Church, where he led worship, sang in gospel groups, and taught Sunday school. Those who knew him remember him as a person of integrity—intelligent, patient, and kind. Despite significant visual impairment for much of his life, John lived a full and purposeful life. He is now at peace in Heaven, where he can see clearly for the first time, reunite with loved ones, and perhaps even join a new quartet.
