November 17, 1934— March 10, 2026
East Ridge, TN
John C. Carroll, 91, of East Ridge, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Born in Augusta, Georgia on November 17, 1934 to the late Roy Lee and Mary Cooper Carroll, he was a lifelong man of deep faith and quiet determination. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Elizabeth Anderson Carroll; his brothers, Roy Lee Carroll, Jr. and Bobby J. Carroll; and his son-in-law, Neil Wiser.
From shining shoes at age seven shortly after the Depression to his retirement in 1999 as Director of Plant Services for Alexian Village of Tennessee, John worked with integrity and heart in everything he did. Yet nothing meant more to him than the years he spent in ministry. He pastored churches in Georgia and Tennessee, where he witnessed many souls saved and lives transformed. His final pastorate was at People’s Baptist Church in Rossville, Georgia.
He is survived by his daughter Nancy Wiser; his daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Tony Little; three grandchildren, Thomas (Justina) Wiser, Michelle (Steven) Burton, and Michael (Kathryn) Little; and six great-grandchildren, Maci, Lexi, and Alli Wiser, and Angela, Robby, and Anthony Burton, along with several nieces and nephews.
One of the projects closest to his heart was helping establish a $5,000 annual college scholarship for a high school student connected with Alexian Village of Tennessee. Though his own formal education ended after fifth grade, John longed for every young person to pursue learning and, above all, to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith.
