Byrd, 72, of Greensburg, passed away at 10:24 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born on November 8, 1953, the son of Richard Byrd and Mary "Gerry" Blair. He was a resident of Decatur County the majority of his life. He was a sports fanatic and loved watching the Cincinnati Reds and NASCAR. John married Connie Lynn Wright on October 3, 2015, in Greensburg. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2018. Survivors include his daughter, Krista D. (Joe) Leonard of Sorrento, Florida; his sons, Joshua D. (Crystal) Byrd and Christopher J. (Jessica) Byrd both of Greensburg; his sister, Terry (Dan) Dinsmore; his brother, Tim (Carlene) Byrd; grandchildren, Taleisa Byrd, Jaslyn Byrd, Abigail Byrd, Maggie Byrd, Joseph Leonard and Kelsie Cole; great grandchildren, Alanna Dickmeyer and Everleigh Blake. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie; his brothers, Gary Blair, Doug Blair and Rick Byrd. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow at Shirk Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24 from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
