John Allen Orr

June 17, 1947 March 8, 2026

Los Angeles, CA

John Allen Orr, affectionately known as “Eagle Man,” was born in Los Angeles, California, to Albert Wallace Orr and Ruth Evelyn Orr (née Carr) on June 17, 1947. He passed away on March 8, 2026, at Hines Veteran Hospital in Proviso Township, Illinois.

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after faithfully fulfilling his duties. His military service remained one of the deepest sources of pride in his life. During his time in the Navy he earned the Combat Action Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.

Outside of his military career, John possessed a deep love of knowledge and storytelling. An avid reader, he found quiet joy in encyclopedias, classic Sherlock Holmes mysteries, and a wide range of novels and love stories. He also held a special affection for cats, whose gentle companionship brought him comfort. Those who knew him will remember his quiet strength, thoughtful nature, and the sincere care he showed to both people and animals.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Wallace Orr and Ruth Evelyn Orr; his siblings, Charles Wallace (Edith) Orr, Robyn Ann (Orr) Crandall, and Phillip Branden Orr; his nephew, James Orr; and his niece, Tammy. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Elizabeth (Orr) Greathouse (Kenneth); nephews Jason Orr, David Greathouse, and Peter (Mary) Greathouse; nieces Katie and Hannah; great-nieces and nephews Isla and Cullen Greathouse, Denali, Lexi Brannen, and Rhys Orr; and his devoted friends Nayely Tapia, Jimmy Stanciel, Shirley Daniels, and Eugene McDaniel.
