Rowcliff, Sr., a beloved resident of Sandoval, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on Monday, August 14th, 1944, in Fairbury, Illinois, son of Cyril Rowcliff and Hazel Virginia (Bull) Rowcliff. On January 20, 1966, John married the love of his life, Linda Pennington, and she survives.John is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Linda Rowcliff, and their four children: John Rowcliff, Jr. of Sandoval; Delinda Rowcliff (Donnie) of Sandoval; Connie Rowcliff (Jim) of Centralia; and Tammy Bates (Larry) of Junction City. He was a cherished grandfather to nine grandchildren and adored his 11 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his loving siblings, Herman Rowcliff, Bill Rowcliff, Christine Johnson, and Wilma Ward, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.His departure is mourned, but he reunites in peace with his parents, Cyril and Hazel Virginia Rowcliff, his daughter, Alice Mae Rowcliff, grandson, Travis Bierman, and 14 siblings. John was also predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, sister-in-law Rose Pennington, and four brothers-in-law: Buddy, Frank, Bobby Lee, and Danny Pennington. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the heavenly choir of his beloved family members who have gone before him.John dedicated 25 years of service to the Sandoval City Hall, working diligently from March 1975 until his retirement in November 2000. Beyond his professional achievements, John was known for his love of the outdoors and family. He spent his leisure time fishing, camping, attending auctions, and playing cards. He also enjoyed golf and the simple joys of spending time with his family at various functions.To celebrate John's life and legacy, a visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia.
