Joel Mullins ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home on Mar. 16, 2026.Joel Edward Mullins, age 78, of LaFayette, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026.He was a faithful member of Bethel Memorial Baptist Church and was deeply devoted to his faith. In recognition of his dedication to Scripture, he received a Bible Reading Certificate from Sword of the Lord Ministries for reading the Bible through in one year, a commitment he continued faithfully each year from 2008 through 2025. Volunteer work was important to him, and he proudly served his community as Reserve Deputy Sheriff of Catoosa County and as a volunteer fireman for Fort Oglethorpe. His service to the community was also recognized when he was featured in the Housing Authority of The City of LaFayette's "Around and About" publication in April 2016 while serving as Resident Commissioner and President of the Resident Committee. He enjoyed spending time at the LaFayette Senior Center, where he formed many friendships and shared in fellowship with others. He was a familiar face of the Metropolitan Softball Association where he was one of the keepers of the summer softball books. He was a 1966 graduate of Lakeview High School and received his Computer Programming degree from Chattanooga State College.He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward Mullins and Hildred McGaha Mullins; brother, Mike Mullins; grandmother, Mattie McGaha; uncle and aunt, Roy and Helen McGaha along with several other aunts, uncles, and cousins.Joel leaves behind his cousin/brother, Michael "Mickey" McGaha; aunt, Betty Jo Phillips of Blue Ridge, GA; and several cousins.A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bud Martenn officiating.Interment will take place at McIntyre Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Brandon Presnell, Eric Chase, Chris Kelley, Mark Hall, Randall Henry, and Jeff Bailey.Honorary pallbearers will be Marlena Nation and Keri Pethick.Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 20, and on Saturday from 12 p.m. to the hour of service at the funeral home.Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
