Joe Tom Greene, 79, of Harlan, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026 after a brief illness. Born on June 27, 1946, in Harlan, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Isom Greene and Martha Leona Woodyard Greene.
A welder and machinist by trade, Joe worked hard throughout his life and took pride in providing for his family. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a man of the Church of God faith.
He will be remembered for his generous heart, strong work ethic, and willingness to help anyone in need. Above all, Joe was devoted to his family. He was a loving and faithful husband to Peggy for 57 years and a proud father and grandfather who found his greatest joy in those he loved. To his family, he was a steady source of strength, care, and support, and they will always treasure the love he showed through both his words and his actions.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Greene; his children, Rev. Eric J. Greene and wife Hannah, She-ra Bennett and husband Devin, and Rev. Bryan Greene and wife Autumn; his grandsons, Alex Greene, Wesley Greene, Elliot Greene, Landen Greene, and Devin Bennett, Jr.; his granddaughters, Aubrey Bennett, Madalyn Bennett, and Mckenzie Bennett; and special nephews, Robert Housley and John Baczyk, along with a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Nora Southerland, Henry Greene, Clarence Greene, Thelma Davis, Nellie Yates, Leola Peters, Virgil Greene, Iva Stapleton, Lillie Mae Sevier, Isom Greene, Jr., Dora Baczyk, and Marie Housley.
