Joe Powell ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by St. John's Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 17, 2026.Adjure Joe Dean Powell, 81 of St. Augustine Beach, FL formerly of Lake Wales/ Winter Haven, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026 at his home with his wife by his side.Born in Spartanburg, SC on May 8, 1944 he is proceeded in death by his parents, Adgure D. Powell and Mary Montanyne Powell of Miami, FL.His early years until graduating from high school he lived in Miami, FL. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and lived for many years in the Washington, DC area until his return back to Miami where he lived until moving to Winter Haven, FL in the early 1990's. After working in the Orlando, FL area for several years, he went to work for the private Residential/Golf community of Mountain Lake in Lake Wales, Florida as their Facility Manager where he was employed for over 20 years until he retired in 2017.Joe enjoyed doing lots of DIY projects around the house, golfing, camping, hiking, fishing, photography, road trips to the many Florida State Parks and loved long walks along the beach with his wife. As a previously licensed pilot, he also loved flying small planes. His most favorite hobby was reading anything relating to history. He joined the Elks Lodge, St. Augustine Beach in 2019.A devoted husband, he and his wife, Rita were married for over 16 happy years. He is also survived by his son, Jordan Powell and his granddaughter, Zoey both of Winter Haven, Florida.Special thanks to the kind staff of Community Hospice including Sierra, Misheala, Liz and especially Ann and all the other behind the scenes personnel that helped us during this time.To honor one of Joe's final requests, there will be no services scheduled.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to:Victory Baptist Church – In Memory of Joe Powell, 620 W.
