Joe McGuire ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Homes & Crematory - Milton Chapel on Mar. 5, 2026.Joe Keith McGuire, 76, of Milton, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, due to complications from an illness.Joe was born in Fernandina, Florida, and was raised by his grandparents, Bowman and Nellie Mae Powell.After graduating from high school, Joe enlisted in the United States Army in 1967. He served three tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1974. Joe carried the effects of war throughout his life, living with chronic PTSD.Joe was the proud father of five sons. Kevin was born during his first marriage, and Michael during his second marriage. He later married the love of his life, Dorotha, in September 1978. Together, they built a life and family.Throughout his working years, Joe drove semi-trucks and dump trucks before transitioning to work as an apartment maintenance technician. In 1982, he suffered a serious injury on the job that left him disabled and caused chronic back pain. Despite this setback, Joe continued to use his natural talent for maintenance and remodeling work. He took great pride in helping others and teaching many people the skills he had mastered over the years.Joe is survived by his loving wife, Dorotha McGuire; his five sons, Kevin McGuire, Michael "Mac" McGuire (Karen), Kenneth McGuire (Chrissy), Joshua McGuire, and Kraig McGuire (Jackie); and his grandchildren, Keith, Corgan, Xander, Kaden, and Kallen. He is also survived by his brother, Emmett Young; his aunt, Shirley Powell Martin; and his favorite cousin, Linda Powell Hollway. His brothers and sisters-in-law, Daryl Tutt, Sr. (Sharon), Carl Tutt (Diana), Curtis Tutt, and Elizabeth (Ray) Robertson. He also has many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 9 th, 2026, at East Side Baptist Church, 4884 Ward Basin Road, Milton, Florida 32583. The visitation with the family will start at 3:30pm then the service will begin at 4pm. A burial service will take place after his son, Kenny returns from deployment in the Middle East.The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Santa Rosa Medical Center, West Florida Hospital, and VITAS Hospice for the compassion, love, and care shown to Joe during his illness.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Eastside Baptist Church or the Wounded Warrior Project in Joe's memory.Disclaimer: This obituary has been created by the family and posted directly by Lewis Funeral Home.
