JoAnn Svehlik ObituaryVisit the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory website to view the full obituary.JoAnn Alice Svehlik (March), age 80, died Sunday March 15, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital.The daughter of Dorothy (Glick) and Delmar March, JoAnn was born in Apple River, IL on December 6, 1945. She met Wayne Svehlik, while attending Iowa Wesleyan University, and they married in 1970 when Wayne finished his tour of service with the U.S. Army. They were married for 55 years.JoAnn was the heart of her family; both in Rhode Island and in the mid-west. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and dedicated herself to graciously serving others. She was actively engaged in the lives of her children and grandchildren and made them feel loved. She taught them values like kindness, responsibility, loyalty, honesty and empathy. She could often be found arranging and cooking for family gatherings, and everyone always looked forward to seeing her infectious smile. She was the sort of person you wanted to be around, was a kind advisor when you needed it, and the sort of wife and friend you hoped to have.She enjoyed crafting and making things for others and could often be found gardening. She attended Kingston Congregational Church, where she regularly volunteered and hosted the coffee hour. She enjoyed baking Christmas cookies for her friends and family, a tradition which each of her family members carry on. She was an avid collector of Boyds Bears which she was passionate about sharing with others.She leaves behind her husband, Wayne; her daughter, Amy Weber (Svehlik); her two sons, Edward (Ted) Svehlik and Mark Svehlik; and their respective spouses Ward Weber, Chris Anderson and Chrissy Svehlik. She also leaves her four beloved grandchildren who were a great source of pride and joy in her life, Calista (Cali) Weber, Stella Weber, Maya Svehlik and Adam Svehlik. She is survived by her two sisters, Constance (Connie) Stender (March) and Diane March and her brothers Ron March and Darrell March.A private memorial for the family will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the American Heart Association would be greatly appreciated. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
