Joan Seena Feinbloom

b. 1933

Rochester, NY

Joan Seena Lefkowitz Feinbloom, daughter of New York Attorney General Louis Lefkowitz and Helen Schwimmer Lefkowitz, was born in New York City in the spring of 1933. A graduate of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School and Brown University, she remained a lifelong scholar of literature and the arts. In 1956 she married Harold and moved to Rochester, where she raised their two sons and became deeply engaged in the community. Together with Harold, she provided leadership and support to numerous philanthropic efforts throughout the area.

Joan presided over the family foundation with care and focus, directing resources toward arts education and services for families. She was a dedicated docent at the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery, where she continued her own studies with enthusiasm, and served for many years on the board of the University of Rochester Medical Center. Her quiet generosity and hard work have improved the lives of thousands who will never know her name.

Predeceased by her parents, her brother Stephen, her husband Harold, and many lifelong friends, Joan is survived by her sons David (Lisa Scholnick) and Stephen (Vicki Copeland), and her grandchildren Daniel, Rosie, and Ruby Feinbloom. She never stopped reading, learning about the world, or listening attentively to those around her. Her memory is accompanied by her good deeds. May her memory be a blessing.
