Joan Rainey

Joan Rainey, 96, of Milford, passed away on March 13, 2026. Born on January 21, 1930 in Hartford, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Catherine (Corbett) Summers. She graduated from Milford High School and worked for the City of Milford in the engineering department for more than 23 years.

Joan found great joy in volunteering for Milford Hospital, gathering with her Red Hats group, traveling whenever she could, cheering for the UConn Women’s Basketball team and the New York Giants, and hosting her cherished Thursday night card games with friends. Above all, she treasured her time with her grandchildren and especially delighted in the company of her youngest great-granddaughter, Lily.

She was the beloved wife of the late David Rainey. Joan is survived by her children, Kevin (Lauren) Rainey and Stephen (Barbara) Rainey; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Harold Summers, Jr. She was predeceased by her infant son, David, Jr., her sons William and Robert Rainey, and her siblings Ralph, Diane, and Rosemary.
