Lancaster, PA
Joan M. Glatfelter (nee Bleacher), 90, of Lancaster, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Kadima Rehabilitation & Nursing in Lititz. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Nevin L. Glatfelter.
Born on February 6, 1936, in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Dorothy May Neuhauser Bleacher. Joan worked for Miller & Hartman, Watt & Shand, and the YWCA Child Enrichment Center. She loved traveling and entertaining family and friends, and she cherished the time spent with her brother, sisters, and best friend, sharing lunches, teas, shopping trips, and visits to the casino filled with laughter. An extraordinary mother and grandmother, she shared a special bond with her grandson and never missed a soccer or baseball game, always cheering on the Flyers. Her enthusiasm for bringing joy to children extended to her nieces, nephews, and neighborhood youth through many activities. She served as an active parent volunteer in the School District of Lancaster during her children’s school years and took great pride in being a lifelong resident of Lancaster City, where she frequently visited downtown to dine, shop, and return home with her favorite finds from Central Market.
Joan began her faith journey as a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Lancaster and later became a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Lancaster.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Sue Glatfelter Jarrett (Daniel), of Lancaster; two sons, Scott Mitchell Glatfelter (Angela), of Richmond, Virginia, and Bryan Keith Glatfelter (Christine Cipoletti) of Lancaster; her grandson, Tyler Michael Duschl; and her siblings, Doris Murray, Judy Sauders (Gordon), Benjamin Bleacher, and Karen Tshudy (Paul). She was predeceased by her sister, Marcia Mummaw, and her sister-in-law, Linda Bleacher. In her final months, she was lovingly cared for by the dedicated staff at Kadima Rehabilitation and Nursing in Lititz.
