Joan L. Patterson

Joan L. Patterson, 94, of Claysville, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 26, 1931, in Wheeling, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James “Phil” Hedrick and Elnora Gallagher Hedrick. A graduate of Central Catholic High School in Wheeling, Joan married Wilfrid Burket in 1954 and together they raised six children. Later in life she married Norman Patterson.

A proud Catholic, Joan found her greatest joy in the company of her family, whom she loved deeply. She cherished her cats, looked forward to camping trips, and delighted in baking for those she held dear. To family and friends she was affectionately known as “Mamu.”

Joan was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela (Harry) Newland, her son Wilfrid Burket, and her siblings James F. Hedrick Jr., Catherine Jackewicz, Lavelle Devauld, Eleanor Hedrick, and Donald Hedrick. She is survived by her children Regina (Donald) Lauther, Frankie (Eric) Mark, David Burket, and Francine (Mike) Claude, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry her memory with love.
