Joan Hood Koger

Joan Hood Koger was born on August 1, 1941, in Jamestown, Tennessee, and passed away on March 11, 2026, in Somerset, Kentucky, at the age of 84. The daughter of the late Woodrow and Marva Elaine (Bowden) Hood, she grew up surrounded by family in the place she always called home.

In 1959, Joan married Frank D. Koger, and together they raised their daughter, Sheila. She found her greatest joy in her family and the quiet rhythms of a life rooted in love and steadfast presence. Joan was known for her gentle spirit and the quiet strength she offered to those around her.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Cantrell, and son-in-law, Gary Cantrell; her aunt, Lowanda Gernt; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank D. Koger, and her siblings, Joyce Glenn, Janice Finley, Julia King, and John Tinch.

Joan will be remembered with great affection by all who knew her.
