Joan Siglin ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by The Cremation Society of Iowa - Des Moines on Mar. 2, 2026.Joan Dee "Joni" Siglin, 81, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, following a courageous journey with Alzheimer's disease.Joni was born on December 21, 1944, to Merlin and Betty Johnson in Red Oak, Iowa, where she was raised. From a young age, she was known for her independence and warm spirit. She could often be found riding her bike all over town, hanging out at Earl May with her dad and exploring the outdoors. That independence and quiet strength remained with her throughout her life.She attended Simpson College, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. It was there she met the love of her life, William "Bill" Siglin. Joni and Bill were married on June 6, 1964, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned decades.After their marriage, they moved to Memphis, Tennessee, before returning to Iowa, where they lived in Polk City and eventually settled in the home she loved on the golf course in Woodward. Joni found great joy in watching the golfers from her home, collecting their mis-hit golf balls (thank you), and enjoying the beauty of her surroundings.Joni had a deep love for children. She worked as a lab technician at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, later taught preschool at Little Sprouts Preschool, and managed the Woodward Pool. Her nurturing spirit touched many young lives over the years.She found happiness in life's simple pleasures - mowing, nurturing her flowers and feeding her birds and squirrels. Joni was warm, kind, and quietly strong.She is lovingly survived by her four daughters: Tracy (Jeff) DeLong; Kelly (Bill) Skinner; Jacqueline (Chad) Ewalt; and Elizabeth Siglin; as well as 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of pride and joy.The family extends their deepest gratitude to Brittanya Thompson and her family for the exceptional love and care they provided over the past seven years. Because of them, Joni was able to remain in her home throughout her Alzheimer's journey, surrounded by love, comfort and familiarity.A private burial service will be held for her immediate family.She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
