October 14, 1937— March 15, 2026
Vincennes, IN
Joan Chambon, 88, passed away on March 15, 2026. Born in Vincennes, Indiana on October 14, 1937, to the late Jewell and Pearl Hocker, she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955 and from Vincennes University in 1958. That same year, on July 12, she married the love of her life, Dick Chambon. Their marriage lasted 42 years until his passing.
Joan began her career as a Registered Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital. A longtime member of the YMCA, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and her local Duplicate Bridge Club, she was a faithful attendee of Upper Indiana Presbyterian and Indiana Presbyterian Church, where she played the organ for many years. She found great joy in playing bridge and mahjong, knitting blankets and washcloths, reading books, visiting the Knox County Public Library, and attending plays at the Old Town Players. Affectionately known as the “Cookie Lady” or “Grandma Cookies,” Joan made and gifted homemade cookies to everyone she knew, touching countless lives in Vincennes with her kindness and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jewell and Pearl Hocker, her husband Dick Chambon, and her sisters Dorothy Hocker, Jean Moyer, and Jackie Jontz. Joan is survived by her children Michael (Lisa) Chambon, Renee (Carl) Scott, and Valerie (Casey) Chambon; her grandchildren Melissa Chambon, Alison (Daniel) Riddle, and Elise Chambon Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
