Joan Horvath ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Living Waters Funeral Home & Crematory - Lyman on Mar. 6, 2026.Joan Caulfield Horvath, 87, died February 26, 2026 at Eden Terrace, Assisted Living Facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina, surrounded by her loving family.Born October 14, 1938 in Limerick, Ireland she was the daughter of the late William Caulfield and Christina Kelly Caulfield of Limerick, Ireland. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Julian of Palmajor, Hungary and her son Julian I. Horvath of Vossem, Belgium.Mrs. Horvath was completely devoted to her family.She was a small but mighty source of strength capable of imparting both wisdom and wit in equal measure. She was fearless in defense of her family and modest but resolute in defense of her faith.Survivors include her son Dr. Gary Peter Horvath and his wife Rev'd Leslie Ferguson Horvath of Greer; her daughter Monique Christine Lewis and her husband Rob Lewis of Simpsonville; her daughter-in-law Deborah Horvath of Woodruff, daughter-in-law Argyro Kamvyssi of Vossem, Belgium; her sister Noreen C. Keating of Shannon, Ireland; sister Mary C. Bhathena of Shannon, Ireland; her brother Kieran Caulfield of Germany; five grandchildren Steven Julian Horvath (Megan) of Spartanburg; Sarah Ann Horvath (Tommy) of Gaffney; Mary Rebecca Horvath of Spartanburg; Eliana Joan Horvath Kamvyssi of Vossem, Belgium; Ariana Nicole Jones of Simpsonville, and one great grandchild Eliana Coughlan. The entire family wishes to express our heartfelt and eternal gratitude to the entire staff at Eden Terrace along with her devoted Family Hospice staff for their years of loving and compassionate care of Mrs. Horvath.A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2026 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church Spartanburg, SC conducted by the Rev'd Rob Brown and the Rev'd Paul Abernathy. Visitation, also at St. Matthews will precede the service from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. The service will be both live-streamed and recorded on Facebook and then made available for later viewing on YouTube for overseas family and both foreign and stateside friends of the family.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 101 St. Matthew's Lane, Spartanburg, SC 29301, or to the American Heart Association online at www.heart.org in memory of Joan Caulfield Horvath.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
