Joan B. Trank

Joan B. Trank

Passed March 6, 2026

Dumont, NJ

Joan Trank (née Ahern) of Dumont passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at the age of 90. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Trank and the devoted mother of Jo Ann Presky, Mary Trank, and Eileen Sheehan and her husband John. Joan was the cherished grandmother of Sarah Lachenauer and her husband Jeff, William Presky, Andrew, Caroline, and Christopher Sheehan, and the blessed great-grandmother of Chase and Logan Lachenauer. She is also survived by her dear sister Maureen Reynolds and brother Jack Ahern. Joan was predeceased by her loving brother Michael Ahern and sister Ann Ahern.

Born in New York City, Joan was the daughter of Josephine (née O’Halloran) of Athea, County Limerick, Ireland, and John Ahern of Newtownsandes, County Kerry, Ireland. She grew up in Manhattan, attending Holy Name Grammar School and Blessed Sacrament High School. After marrying Thomas in 1957, she lived in the Bronx before moving to Dumont in 1968.

While raising her children, Joan pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. She graduated from Bergen Community College as a registered nurse and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Peter’s University. She worked proudly for 25 years as a staff nurse at Bergen Regional Medical Center. In retirement, she continued to serve her community as a substitute teacher and school nurse in Bergenfield and Tenafly.

Joan found great joy in family life. She loved hosting holidays and created beautiful, festive ornaments for her children and grandchildren that will be treasured always. She and her husband Tommy enjoyed traveling together and spent many happy evenings at dances and events at the Knights of Columbus in Dumont. Later in life, they found pleasure playing cards with friends at the Dumont Senior Center. Above all, Joan took deep delight in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her passion and warmth in hearing about their days will be greatly missed.
