Jo Ann Sharp Grantland

Jo Ann Sharp Grantland, 86, of Somerville, passed away on March 9, 2026, at her residence. Born on September 5, 1939, in Morgan County, she was the daughter of Elmer Price Sharp and Edith Hodge Sharp.

A dedicated United States Postal worker for more than 25 years, Jo Ann retired after a long career of service. She was a faithful member of the Somerville Church of God and was remembered as a hero for rescuing her 19-month-old granddaughter Leanna from a burning house in 1996. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who took great pride in caring for her family. Alongside her work, she helped on the family farm, prepared daily lunches, and found joy in tending her yard and flower beds. She cherished flowers and watching hummingbirds, carrying herself always as a classy Southern lady.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ted Price Grantland, her sister, Janie Ruth Moore, and her parents.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ted Grantland; sons David Grantland (Darlene) and Michael Grantland (Leese); granddaughters Breanna Corder (Evan) and Leanna Grantland (Will Ellis); and great-grandsons James Price Corder, Teddy Wells Corder, and Atley Robert Corder. She is also survived by her brother, Jimmy Sharp.
