Jimmie Mabry ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc. Lilburn-Tucker Chapel on Mar. 17, 2026.Jimmie Leon Mabry passed away on March 15th, 2026 at the age of 94. He was born in Fulton County on March 8th, 1932, and lived in the Metro Atlanta Area almost his entire life.Jimmie graduated from North Fulton High School in 1950 and soon after, married Millie in November of that year. He was already working for his Father, John Leon Mabry, at J.L. Mabry Grading, Inc., since his Father had taught him how to drive a dump truck at the age of 14 and had him helping on all of the jobsites whenever possible at a young age, so Jimmie continued working for his Father until he joined the United States Navy in 1954. He served in the Korean War on two ships, the U.S.S. Iowa and the U.S.S. Lake Champlain, working tireless hours in the Engine Room. During his time in the service, he had two years of Shore Duty in Green Cove Springs, Florida, and this Shore Duty fortunately enabled Millie the opportunity to move from Atlanta down to the base to live with him for that period of time. While serving his four years, plus another 4 years in the Reserves, they made many friends with folks from all over the Country and maintained most of these friendships their entire lives. The two of them would take cross-country car trips to visit some of these Navy friends and when possible, they would make a stop in Las Vegas so Millie could get behind a slot machine. After being discharged from the Navy, Jimmie went back to work for his father, and soon after his father's death, he bought J.L. Mabry Grading, Inc. from his mother and continued running the company until he retired in 1982.Jimmie loved to build things by hand, repair things, and restore old vehicles (he had a 1952 Ford pick-up, a 1930 Ford A-Model and a 1949 Willis Jeep, all of which he restored from the frame up). He also loved to chop, sell and deliver firewood (he had over 400 customers in the area) and raise a large garden every year (which he sold most of his harvest to his neighbors and passers-by). He always loved telling you a joke, and if he really liked you, he would pick on you or aggravate you every time he got the chance. He was an amazing role model to both of his daughters as to what a father, husband, son, brother and friend should be.Jimmie was a true Southern Gentleman all the way to the end and was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.Jimmie is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Mildred "Millie" Russell Mabry, his Daughter Tracey Mabry Arnold, along with his parents and all his siblings. He is survived by his Daughter Cathy Lea Vanover (Marc), Grandchildren Katie Evans (Tyler), Alex Vanover (Mackenzie), one Great Grandchild Emmett Evans and one Nephew Johnny Woodall (Marissa).Visitation will be held at Bill Head Funeral Home Lilburn / Tucker Chapel (6101 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084) on Friday, March 20th, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
