Jim Pye ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Roper Funeral Home and Crematory - Jasper on Mar. 16, 2026.Roper Funeral Home and Crematory206 Holly StJasper, GA 30143(706) 253-7500(706) 253-0040www.roperfuneralhome.comGod called Deacon Jim Pye, Jr. home to rest at the age of 83 on the morning of March 12, 2026, at Cherokee Nursing Center in Canton, Georgia, following an extended illness.Deacon Jim was born on May 30, 1942, to the late Deacon Jim Pye, Sr. and Carolyn (Johnson) Pye in Bartow County, White, Georgia, where he resided until his parents relocated to Nelson, Georgia in 1942.He committed his life to Christ at an early age, joining Pilgrim Baptist Church under Reverend Henry Rogers, where he served faithfully. He loved the Lord and rejoiced in singing praises to His name.Deacon Pye attended Pickens County Training School and graduated from Tri City High School in Tate, Georgia. He married Marie Howell Pye in 1968 and they resided in Nelson, Georgia. Born to that union were two children, Arsenior A. Pye and Tommy B. Pye, both of whom preceded him in death.He was ordained as a Deacon at Pilgrim Baptist Church in 1981 under Reverend Wofford Bailey and was appointed Chairman of the Deacon Board in 1984, serving for 38 years.He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jesse J. Pye and Willie L. Pye; and two sisters, Margaret Ann Pye and Emma Jean Mullins. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Marie Pye; granddaughter, Tianna Pye; five siblings, Virginia L. Pye of Douglasville, Dr. Leon G. Pye of Decatur, Vivian D. Chatman of Nelson, Sandra D. Thomas of Douglasville, and April L. Pye of Douglasville; loving friend, Anthony Simpson; sisters-in-law, Cathlyn Pye, Louise Rankin, Lucille Caldwell, Ina Taylor; brother-in-law, Jackie Howell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. He will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service. Interment will follow in Lake Forest Memorial Park.The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m.Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
