Jim Davis

July 13, 1943 March 4, 2026

Tacoma, WA

James Myron Davis entered peacefully into eternal life on March 4, 2026, after many years of living with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on July 13, 1943, in Tacoma, Washington, he was the only child of Elmer A. Davis and Betty L. Rimpler Gallert. Jim grew up in Tacoma, attending Holy Rosary School and Bellarmine High School before studying at Seattle University, where he met Susan Denman. They married on June 11, 1966, and soon moved to Virginia while Jim served in the Army. In 1968, he, Sue, and their growing family returned to Tacoma, where he completed his Army reserve service as Captain and began a 37-year career with the Weyerhaeuser Company.

Jim’s early passion for computers shaped much of his professional path, leading him from Boeing to his Army assignment at Ft. Monroe, Virginia, and then to Weyerhaeuser. He earned a Master’s in Personnel Administration and, in 1973, took his family to Pullman for two years while completing a Master’s in Computer Science. A devoted family man, Jim shared his enthusiasm for sports and outdoor pursuits with his children and later his grandchildren. He served as the first president of the Weyerhaeuser Ski Club, roller skated with his children, joined an adult speed skating team, and bicycled with the Tacoma Wheelmen. In 1990 he fulfilled a longtime dream by riding across the northern United States with Cycle America. His interests later expanded to kite making, which he taught at the local community college, and kayaking, where he helped found the Gig Harbor Kayak Club. Even in retirement, he continued planning group adventures for friends and cherished quiet mornings sharing coffee with them.

Above all, Jim was a faithful husband to Sue, a loving father, and a steadfast friend. He is survived by his wife Sue; their seven children, Tim (Yvette), Thom, Terry (Kathleen), Tami (Jim Antush), Tracy (Doug Brown), Todd (Melissa), and Therese (Ben Walz); thirteen grandchildren, Jacob (Sierra), Jenna (Amy), Jeremy, Hannah, Katie, Joel, Xander, Sid, Howard, Max, Elizabeth, Helen, and Jett; and two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Evelynn. He was preceded in death by his parents.
