Jewell Mitchell, 86, of Erlanger, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood.
Born in Mayslick, Kentucky, to the late Virgil and Jewell Mitchell, he entered the world alongside his twin brother, Newell. Jewell served his country in the United States Army and later worked for many years as a forklift driver for Kroger before retiring. In 1965, he married Brenda Crupper, the love of his life. Together they shared a life centered on faith, daily walks of six miles, and a deep passion for square dancing, often dancing three or four nights a week. Through their dancing club, they traveled together to Hawaii, Fontana, North Carolina, and Noblesville, Indiana, making many happy memories.
Jewell took special delight in being a “girl dad” and found great joy in raising his daughters. A longtime member of Erlanger Church of Christ, he read his Bible faithfully every day. He also enjoyed reading Reader’s Digest and took quiet pride in maintaining a beautiful yard.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Newell; his sister, Francis Kimmerly; and his brothers, Melvin, Eugene, John, and Nelson.
Jewell is survived by his loving wife of more than 61 years, Brenda Mitchell; daughters, Jo Ann (Tom) Teague and Laura Mitchell; five step-grandchildren and fifteen step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Barbara (Arthur) Noel; brother-in-law Robert Crupper; and many nieces and nephews.
