Louisville, KY
Jewel "Judy" May Gilbert, a cherished soul of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on March 6, 2026, at the age of 90.
Judy was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend whose warm spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her. A devoted woman of faith, she found joy and comfort at Grace Point Baptist Church, where her presence was a blessing to her church family. Judy’s lively and cheerful nature made her a bright light in any room—always ready with a kind word and eager to share in the fellowship of her church friends. She loved music, especially country concerts, and cherished her weekly visits to the hair salon. Above all, Judy treasured spending time with her family, whose love was the center of her life.
Born on August 8, 1935, in Louisville to Robert and Bessie (Ireland) Montgomery, Judy’s loving heart was shaped by her roots and the family she held dear. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Gilbert, her son Michael Gilbert, her sisters Opal, Tuki, Lillian, Mabel, Joetta, and her brother Sonny.
She leaves behind her devoted daughter Terri (Harold) Carlisle, granddaughter Heather Carlisle, grandson Allen Carlisle, great-granddaughter Mia Kelly, and a host of extended family and friends who will forever hold her memory close.
A celebration of Judy’s life will take place on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
In honor of Judy’s legacy, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Beechland Baptist Church.
Those who knew and loved Judy are invited to share memories and messages with the family to keep her spirit alive in their hearts. Judy’s joyful life and loving presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.
